Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar posted on X criticizing Trump’s top labor prosecutor for siding with Amazon her old client in a fight over delivery drivers’ working conditions. She said the official should be holding law-breaking companies accountable instead of giving bailouts to Trump’s billionaire buddies. The video clip quickly drew a ton of backlash, with many users pushing back on her take on accountability.
The video shows Rep. Omar speaking during a congressional hearing. In the clip, she questions the official about a decision favoring Amazon in the delivery driver’s case. She says, “So we are to believe that Amazon, which donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration, got the most favorable outcome and nobody made a call? Sounds like a huge coincidence.” She then asks the official to provide the committee with a list of cases she has recused herself from since being sworn in.
According to Omar’s post, the top labor prosecutor — who previously worked for Amazon — sided with the company instead of holding it accountable for working conditions. The clip focuses on her pointed questions during the hearing and does not show the full back-and-forth or what happened before or after.
Backlash Erupts Over Omar’s Amazon Attack
Some users questioned her comments on accountability, with one writing, “You really want to talk about holding law-breaking people accountable? Why are you withholding information from investigators regarding your corruption?” Another stated that “the lady who helped her fellow crooks in Minnesota steal billions of taxpayer dollars is working overtime to spin a story.”
Other commenters defended Amazon’s practices and criticized the post’s perspective on working conditions. One user with personal experience as a delivery driver said the conditions and pay are fair, adding that “you miss Omar, our fraudster in chief, have zero experience.”
A separate response noted, “What are you talking about? Amazon has some of the most employee perks I have ever seen in a company. Do you have any clue how business works?”
Additional replies addressed broader political points. One commenter wrote that “Ilhan’s out here crying about Amazon getting fair play from a labor prosecutor while her socialist ass cheers unions that turn delivery jobs into mafia-style shakedowns” and referred to the representative as “this Somalia import.”
Another described the post as “another TDS episode about Trump” from “the Somali Representative who wants a ‘get out of jail free’ card for allegedly committing fraud.”
The exchange has added to ongoing online discussions about labor policies under the Trump administration and questions of accountability in Washington. The post continues to draw comments as users engage with the hearing clip and its implications.
