Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul confronted Anthony Fauci during a Senate hearing over COVID-era research, lockdowns, and mandates. Paul accused Fauci of avoiding responsibility and using his public authority to justify sweeping restrictions. The exchange drew attention after Paul called Fauci’s role “aiding and abetting the crime.”

A video of Paul’s remarks circulated on X. The clip centered on his accusations against Fauci.

Paul urged Fauci to admit that dangerous research carried risks exceeding any possible benefits. He also asked Fauci to seek forgiveness and support safeguards against another man-made epidemic.

Paul challenged Fauci’s position that he did not personally impose each lockdown, school closure, or mandate. He said officials nationwide invoked Fauci’s authority when making those decisions.

Paul cited a March 14, 2020, message about task force recommendations. He said Fauci wrote that the recommendations were driven by Fauci and other federal officials.

Paul also cited a message about closing New York City schools. He said Fauci wrote that he convinced then-Mayor Bill de Blasio to approve the closure.

Paul then referenced California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s chief of staff. He said Newsom closed schools, bars, and restaurants after watching Fauci on television.

Paul acknowledged that elected officials and institutions made their own decisions. However, he argued that Fauci used his authority to justify the restrictions.

He cited lost education, closed businesses, delayed medical care, and separated families. Paul also cited employment mandates and restrictions on worship, assembly, education, and travel.

Rand Paul’s Fauci Accusations Draw Calls for Accountability and Pushback

The remarks divided X users over accountability, public health expertise, and the hearing’s likely consequences.

One X user wrote, “Nothing in [Sen Rand Paul] statements is untrue. Dr.Fauci should be in jail .” Another stated, “We deserve more than an apology!”

A separate response asked, “Can we just stop with the strongly worded lecture and get to the imprisonment?” Another argued, “Fauci is absolutely refusing to answer ANY question from Rand Paul. He is in contempt of Congress.”

Others challenged Paul’s position. One user wrote, “I guess 1.2 million dead Americans weren’t enough for Dr. Paul.”

Another stated, “Paul is an ophthalmologist, NOT an infectious disease specialist.”

The hearing’s next steps were not shown in the clip. Whether it produces formal consequences remains unresolved.
