We can officially say that the summer of gaming has wrapped up, as we were only waiting for the Nintendo Direct to air, and well, it was way better than many of us imagined. Among the many surprises that will have several fans of Xenoblade and Fire Emblem screaming with joy, there was another announcement that we were not really expecting, and that was the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Now, with a game as big and iconic as this, some would think that it would be far away. Well, you’re wrong. Because this remake is on its way, launching later this year.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Announced for 2026

While we only got a small teaser, it was more than enough to make us stand up and cheer for this legendary title to get its well-deserved remake treatment. As the video states, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is launching later in 2026. And yes, that is just a release window, and nothing is carved in stone just yet, but well, it is coming this year, which is a welcome surprise.

With how the gaming landscape is looking for the rest of 2026, it would be safe to assume that this title may launch before the release of GTA 6, which is what dozens of games are doing, or later around the holiday season, which would also make sense for those who haven’t bought a Nintendo Switch 2 yet. However, these are only speculations, and we don’t know yet what Nintendo’s plans are for this beloved title.

Unfortunately, that is all the information Nintendo revealed during the show. We didn’t get gameplay footage, combat systems, or even some in-game visuals of how this reimagining would look. Still, it is great to see that one of the most legendary titles in the Legend of Zelda series is finally coming to modern platforms and with a much-needed coat of paint.

Despite the lack of a proper release date, fans of the series are filled with joy, as many have been waiting for Ocarina of Time to get a remake. Still, there’s a bit of skepticism involved, as this is such a beloved game that many are curious as to what Nintendo may change when this new version releases later in 2026. Nevertheless, the excitement is there, and many are eager to relive this ’90s classic.
