As many of you know, some states are not too friendly when it comes to certain communities, mainly the transgender ones. Lately, things have only gotten worse as the Trump administration has instituted bans on healthcare. In some states, things have gotten so bad that they want to punish the transgender community for using certain bathrooms. With all of these aggressive things happening, some transgender residents from Arkansas are debating whether to leave or stay in the state, as there are so many restrictions lately for them that life has become extremely difficult in many ways.
Not long ago, the Arkansas Advocate shared an article, which found its way to the Arkansas subreddit, talking about how some transgender residents in the state are thinking if they are going to leave due to recent restrictions.
For the unaware, several states, including Arkansas, have several restrictions when it comes to healthcare for transgender residents, such as denying hormone replacement therapy. This is just one situation; many others are struggling with similar issues across the country. Yet, it seems those in Arkansas are looking for ways to stop this, and while it may sound a bit extreme, the only way to get proper healthcare and stop being attacked by others is by moving to another state.
As the article mentions, several other families have moved out of the state and have looked for cities that offer healthcare to transgender residents. Another thing that it mentions is how the majority of states that impose restrictions on transgender people are Republican-led, which many believe checks out, as that is something Trump supporters are known for.
This information resonated with many, and several people took to the comments to discuss the situation.
Arkansas Redditors Think Moving Out of the State is the Best Call
Several Redditors shared their thoughts in the comments, and many believe that going away could be the best idea, even if it is costly and takes a while.
“Left a few years ago. Miss my home every day. I moved to a city with a notorious reputation and still never worry for my safety here as much as I did as a 15-year-old queer kid in Arkansas.“
“I’m leaving in August. It’s a complex decision and has caused no end of sadness. I hate that it’s come to this.“
Others, however, criticized other citizens in the state, claiming that there are other things causing this type of hate toward the transgender community.
“There’s no hate like Christian love.“
In the end, many believe that, while extreme, the best choice is moving out of the state, as it has become extremely unfriendly toward transgender people.
