A California woman went to an animal shelter in the hopes she could adopt a cat of her own. However, while there, she was totally shocked to meet another woman who she thought was trying to adopt a pet, too. The real reason broke her heart and she just had to post it on social media.

Posted by TikTok user Thefamoustaesterr, Shanye had met the woman at the animal shelter, whom she recorded noaching a little dog. The dog himself seemed rather infatuated with the woman, which Shanye makes the heartbreaking revelation that, according to the woman, that was actually her dog.

Apparently, the woman had lost her dog several weeks prior. But when the woman came to the animal shelter, she found her dog inside one of the cages for sale! From how the dog interacts with the woman, it’s very clear the dog knows exactly who its owner is. Shanye says to her audience, “Look at him!” as she shows how excited the dog is to be reunited with their owner.

“Did you talk to the supervisor?” Shanye asks the woman. She replies, “I’m gonna do that right now.” The dog continues whining and begging its owner to be released.

Though it could have been an honest mistake of a dog that went missing and the owner couldn’t be located, these circumstances are sometimes more nefarious. There have been true tales of dogs being taken to shelters and then sold back to their original owners for enormous costs.

The Internet was up in arms demanding action

Proving why people justify John Wick’s murderous rampage in John Wick, people went back and forth on how they could help. Some solutions included starting a GoFundMe page, just in case the shelter tried to extort the woman. One TikTok viewer even when as far as to tag Governor Gavin Newsom asking for help.

“Let’s all call them. This is unacceptable 😭,” one TikTok viewer asked, which garnered thousands of Likes and numerous comments. Shanye shared the name of the shelter, with many saying they called, too.

One commenter accused the shelter of having an evil, ulterior motive. “Literally holding him hostage for adoption fee ransom,” they wrote. Several commenters shared experiences like this, with one saying they had to pay $600 to get their lost husky back.

In addition to calling the police, a commenter gave great advice by saying the woman should “press charges for theft.” They wrote they did that before and the shelter she dealt with released her dog.

As Shanye comments on an update post, she said she “doesn’t know” if the woman got her dog back or not, so it’s unclear if they were reunited.
