Many Americans who live in the suburbs take pride in their lawns, so imagine how upsetting it can be when a public company simply wrecks a new lawn just weeks after the sod was laid. That allegedly happened recently to a Michigan resident, who blamed DTE Energy for destroying his lawn, sparking outraged reactions online.
The post quickly gained traction on Reddit’s r/Michigan, receiving nearly 500 upvotes and more than 100 comments at the time of this report.
In the post, the Michigan resident claimed that he had put new sod in his front yard only six weeks earlier and that the public energy company, DTE, completely destroyed it without giving “no notice whatsoever by email, note on front door, regular mail, text.” The user lamented that he felt there was nothing he could do, seemingly feeling helpless.
Internet Reacts to Michigan Resident’s Complaints About DTE
The post quickly sparked outrage from other Michigan residents who also had a beef with DTE in the past. One of them tried to help, saying: “It’s my understanding that they are legally required to put the lawn back the way it was before. I would contact your city and start asking questions.”
However, most people were not very hopeful that DTE would do a good job, even if it tried to fix the situation: “They’ll do a [expletive] seed job with grass that doesn’t match, and you’ll like it!”
Other residents shared stories about DTE’s allegedly poor repairs: “If they even use grass. When they had to fix gas lines in my neighborhood, my tree lawn was replanted with a variety of ditch weeds, including black locust seeds. So I spend every spring ripping thorny little seedlings out.”
Someone else described the situation as a “losing battle. They came and ripped some buried cable out of our business front lawn in February, and all they did was put some dirt back on it and drop a little grass seed. Still completely looks like [expletive], and they didn’t level it.”
Others complained that while service was this poor, energy prices kept going up: “Good news though – they just filed to get their second largest rate increase in history, after just receiving their first largest in history!” Someone added sarcastically: “Have you thanked them for their price hike?”
With outrage against DTE Energy rising lately, it is not surprising that people are angry with the public company, which is likely why this story gained so much traction online.
