In a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing in Washington, D.C., DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin challenged Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) over her comments on child separations from families. According to a widely shared X post, Mullin pointed out that 450,000 children were lost during the Biden administration. At the same time, DeLauro cited 3,900 separations, stating she “didn’t say a word about it.” The video clip shows DeLauro appearing flustered in response, drawing significant online attention to the exchange.

The footage, from a House hearing on immigration and border security in Washington, D.C., shows an exchange between Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin at the dais. DeLauro addresses him repeatedly, saying, “Mr. Secretary, Mr. Secretary, do not interrupt me” while gesturing with her finger. Mullin replies, “Do not point your finger at me,” and DeLauro responds, “I will point my finger at you. I am upset about it.” She also references 3,900 children separated from their families. Mullin then states that 450,000 kids were lost during the Biden administration and that she “didn’t say a word about it.” The clip appears to show DeLauro becoming flustered and struggling to continue her remarks.

According to the post, she was so flustered after the exchange that she could barely speak. It is not clear from the footage exactly what occurred immediately before or after this segment of the hearing.

The Internet Weighs In on the Hearing Clash Over Lost Children

Some commenters focused on what they described as an inconsistency regarding child welfare concerns. One wrote, “And what did that old lady do about the kids under Biden’s administration? Nothing. Not a damned thing. Now she acts as if she cares, but she doesn’t. It’s more get Trump BS, and that’s it. Democrat party of fake, lying demons.”

Another stated, “This woman is terrifying to even look at! She’s concerned about 3,900 children but not 450,000 children who were lost during the Biden Administration, and we know for a fact the Biden Administration definitely handed many of them over to child traffickers.”

Other responses expressed support for Mullin or called for changes involving DeLauro’s role. Comments included “Thank you, @SecMullinDHS, for standing up to this lying *expletive* who should be put out to pasture” and “They should pull her off that committee. She does nothing but embarrass this country.”

Additional viewers offered broader views of Congress, with one saying, “Room full of liars accusing each other of lying. I guess the standard in Washington is which one lied about the worst thing, or something. Fire them all,” and another remarking, “Sadly, more than half of all congress either needs institutionalized or put in prison for their crimes. It’s disgusting. U can’t begin to respect these people.”

The clip has added to ongoing online discussions about immigration policies and congressional oversight. Viewers continue to weigh in on the exchange as part of broader debates over government accountability in child welfare.
