An apartment in Oregon was reportedly burglarized, but unfortunately, the surveillance cameras were off their shift for the weekend when it happened. “I’m tempted to ask if their cameras get a salary and PTO,” sarcastically remarked Reddit user Scratpac4774, one of the tenants whose homes were hit during the break-in. According to her post on r/mildlyinfuriating, her “slumlord” allegedly turns off the property’s security during weekends, so there was no footage available to be turned in to the police.
“They stole my dad’s fishing rods, my old uniforms, and a bunch of various memorabilia from our collective military service,” the tenant wrote, adding how many were still left behind, luckily. Still, not being able to have any surveillance footage to show the authorities for the police report would make any chance of getting her stuff back rather troublesome.
“It seems the cameras have a better work schedule than I do, and now we are out of luck. I have asked for clarification and will update if they have any more dumb excuses,” concluded Scratpac4774. Among the hundred Redditors who chimed in the comments were those who were strongly convinced that this burglary might have a particular mastermind behind it: the landlord.

“Whoever set the schedule is affiliated with whoever is making moves,” remarked a user. “Yeah. If that doesn’t scream ‘inside job’ I don’t know what does,” added another. “This is illogical behavior to the point of absurdity, and remarkably convenient for the perpetrator of the crime and absolutely nobody else.” “Nobody just turns their cameras off bc its a weekend,” said a third.
In the end, Scratpac4774 claims that most of the items that were stolen are able to be replaced, which is why she posted the story on r/mildlyinfuriating. Plenty of people believe the landlord is responsible, though it’s more theory, based on the cameras’ bizarre schedule of being off for the weekend.
