A Georgia man has drawn widespread attention on TikTok after claiming a hospital discharged him because he was “sleeping comfortably,” despite saying he was still in severe pain from sickle cell disease. He also alleged that hospital staff called police after he objected to the discharge, accusing the hospital of mistreating him and discriminating against him because of his condition. The videos have sparked discussion about patient advocacy and the treatment of people living with sickle cell disease.

The videos were posted by TikTok creator @igroovi, with the first clip receiving several hundred thousand views. Since then, he has uploaded multiple follow-up videos updating viewers on what happened after the initial encounter, including his visits to other hospitals and his plans to pursue legal action.

In the original video, the Georgia man records three police officers waiting outside his hospital room after staff allegedly reported that he was causing a disturbance. Throughout the recording, he argues that he was discharged too soon and says he was still experiencing significant pain related to sickle cell disease. He also claims he was treated unfairly and suggests he was discriminated against during his stay.

In later videos, he says he returned home by taxi after being discharged, adding that even his mother agreed with the hospital’s decision, something he said left him frustrated. He later visited another hospital, but says he was discharged there as well after medical staff determined that his lab results did not indicate he was experiencing a sickle cell crisis. In his most recent update, he claims that three different hospitals discharged him and says he has hired a lawyer to pursue claims of medical neglect and a lack of proper patient care.

It is important to note that the hospitals shown in the videos have not publicly responded to his allegations, and his claims have not been independently verified. According to the Georgia man, hospital staff based their decision to discharge him in part on observations that he was “sleeping comfortably,” something he argues should not have been used to determine whether he was still in pain.

Georgia Man Finds Support Across TikTok

The videos prompted an outpouring of support from viewers, many of whom questioned whether the Georgia man had received a proper medical evaluation before being discharged. Some commenters, particularly those familiar with sickle cell disease, argued that patients with the condition are too often dismissed or undertreated, while others alleged that Black patients frequently face unequal treatment within the healthcare system. “The healthcare system is horrible. I’m so sorry,” one user wrote.

Several comments also centered on patient advocacy. One aspiring nurse wrote a lengthy response promising to always listen to patients, carefully document their concerns, and speak up if they believed a patient was being treated unfairly. Others encouraged people to learn about their rights as patients and stressed the importance of compassionate, respectful care.

Many users also flooded the comments with prayers, heart emojis, and messages of encouragement. Others pointed to recent advances in sickle cell treatment, including mentioning a Louisiana man who was reportedly cured of the disease, hoping the information might offer encouragement.

Whether the legal case moves forward or not, one thing is clear: the Georgia man’s videos have sparked a broader conversation about how pain is assessed and whether patients feel heard when they seek emergency medical care.
