A woman accused a bar in Illinois of racism after she and her friends were turned away because of a “private event.” However, the woman claims she saw other people who weren’t African American entering the bar without any knowledge of an event.
She shares that she and her friends went to Moe’s Cantina in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood. The woman states that when they arrived at the Illinois bar, the people at the door informed them, “We’re not allowed to let you all in. It’s a private event.” She states that at first she didn’t think there was a problem. However, she noticed something odd as her group waited for their party bus to return. The woman allegedly saw “every non-African American, non-black person that walked up” being let inside the bar.
This led the woman to ask people if they were there for the event. Allegedly, none of them knew of any party happening. The situation shocked her. She states, “This is blatant discrimination.” While not a single person knew about an event when she asked them, they were allowed to enter the bar. However, the woman states that when a “black couple walked up,” they were turned away. What angered her the most is that “they didn’t even try to play it off.” The woman allegedly confronted the Illinois bar’s manager. During which “the man couldn’t even look [her] in [her] face.” Her video has over 121,000 views, over 10,000 likes, and nearly 1,500 comments.
People Not Surprised At Illinois Bar’s Actions
Several in the comments, many who claim to live in Illinois, are not surprised by the bar’s actions. One says, “Wrigleyville been like that. We don’t usually party in those spaces.” Another agrees, “They definitely racist up that way for sure!” Another claims they live ten minutes from the location, and “do[es] NOT go to the bars there.”
Others claim that this isn’t the first time something like that occurred at the Illinois bar’s franchise. One commenter alleges that a similar situation occurred in Rivernorth, where they “den[ied] a black man entry due to his hairstyle.” Meanwhile, many give her suggestions on what her next steps should be. One states, “I would take it to the reviews and keep it pushing,” while others encourage her to file a lawsuit.
However, the woman has not stated what she plans to do about the situation. Though she states she won’t be stepping foot near the Illinois bar again.
