An Illinois mom shared a video asking for help after her car was stolen with her 15-year-old son’s ashes still inside.

The video began with the woman sharing her location and explaining that she was in Chicago, Illinois. She said that someone stole her car in front of her grandmother’s house. Then she showed the damage left behind, including the car’s broken window, with pieces of glass still scattered on the ground.

The loss that affected the woman most was that her 15-year-old son’s ashes were inside the car. She said her son had passed away only a couple of weeks earlier, and the vehicle also contained his obituaries. “I don’t give a [expletive] about my car,” the mom said. “I want my baby back. I want my baby’s ashes back. You stupid [expletive],” she added.

The mom then pleaded with whoever stole the car to return her son’s ashes, saying they could even leave them on the porch of her grandmother’s house. “Y’all took my car with my baby’s ashes in the [expletive] trunk,” she added. She then repeated that she needed her “baby” back.

She had just moved back and hadn’t had time to unpack, which was why her son’s ashes were still in the car. She became teary-eyed as she described what her car looked like and noted that it had a Texas license plate. The video ended with her asking people to repost the footage and pleading, “please help me.”

What Happened Next

After the mom shared the heartbreaking video, she later posted a positive update. In another video, she held her son’s ashes and said, “he’s back.” She appeared to be smiling as she explained that the people who stole her car had apparently left the ashes on her porch. They also left another bag inside the car that contained items related to her son. She then thanked everyone who had helped. The video ended with her telling viewers, “this is y’all’s nephew now,” as she pointed to his ashes.

A positive update followed later when the woman announced that the Chicago Police Department had located her stolen car after it was found abandoned. She thanked the police and everyone who had prayed for her during the ordeal. It remains unclear whether anyone was arrested in connection with the theft.

Viewers Sympathize With Illinois Mom After Son’s Ashes Are Stolen

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers were heartbroken after seeing the Illinois mom’s video, with many leaving comments expressing sympathy and hoping she would recover her son’s ashes. “[Expletive] this this horrible, I need to know if you got him back,” one person wrote. Another person said, “You’d think with all the flock cameras and surveillance they have on us, this would be a easy find, because of course their there to keep us safe, well that is till you need them to do their job and solve crime. I hope you get your baby back.”

Viewers later celebrated after the mom shared that she had gotten her son’s ashes back. “This is the best video I could have seen today. I was absolutely devastated for you yesterday. It’s nice to know that even thieves have hearts!” one person wrote. Another person said, “Cars are replaceable; our kids are not. Glad they at least brought what means more to you than the car. This is amazing.”

The video drew attention to how theft can be especially devastating when a stolen vehicle contains irreplaceable or deeply personal belongings. It also highlighted how social media users can spread information and potentially help people recover important items after such incidents.
