Indiana Tattoo Shop Owner Crashes Out and Fires Worker for Eating On the Clock: ‘So Labor Laws Are a Thing’

Seems like a hostile environment

A tattoo store owner in Indiana went berserk on an employee as he fired her for having lunch on the clock. The heated exchange was captured in a video posted on TikTok. The clip began with the employee complaining that the owner could have just informed her if there was a problem instead of lashing out at her.

The first few minutes of the video were shaky as the employee held her phone while she walked through the shop.  As though triggered by her words, the employer, with a string of expletives, stated that he expected her to have gotten the message the first time he told her she could not eat while on the clock.

The staff member responded that she only ate for barely five minutes, but the man retorted that he did not care and that she was fired. The two exchanged heated words as the woman claimed that the employer was delusional. “Do you know what deluded means?” the man asked. “It means watered down,” he added. When the woman kept talking, the man walked towards her, threatening that he would pay some people to come beat her up if she kept talking. The woman did not back down, though, as she kept talking as she walked out. The employer who had walked away came right back at her, saying he was not concerned about the camera, which she had now pointed directly at him, and that he would call the police on her.

Public Outrage Erupts Over The Confrontation

The clip triggered a widespread online discussion about workplace safety, employee welfare and people’s rights.

One viewer wrote, “Hey, so labor laws are a thing. He is, by law, required to allow you breaks… or he’s breaking the law. Not to mention he threatened your life so….” Many other netizens advised the employee to seek legal representation given the blatant hostility in the work environment. An individual urged immediate involvement of the authorities, pointing out that the woman had clear video evidence of the aggressive behavior.

A frustrated observer listed out the man’s actions to emphasize how absurd the reaction was over a meal break. Another user agreed, saying, “If there are no clients, why can’t she eat for 5 minutes? This is not even treating employees like human beings #Boycott.” A commenter mocked the employer’s definition of the word “deluded,” saying he had no right to insult others with his misunderstanding of basic words. Some more balanced viewers highlighted that while threats of physical harm warrant police involvement, the employer also had a right to terminate her if she was indeed eating on paid time.

“So FOOD is NOT allowed “out” in the SHOP ? I guess IF it was for sanitary purposes/Hygiene (safety guidelines – reason to lose his license), then he does have a valid point, AND if you are blatantly ignoring and disrespecting ‘rules’ like clocking in and out for lunch (seems like entitlement), just MY work ethic and opinion),” a user wrote.

In conclusion, the exchange highlights the thin line between employer authority and fundamental employee rights and dignity.
