A flying phone is the last thing you’d expect to be a danger out on the road, yet that’s exactly what struck a man while driving in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Going by Foxbatt on Reddit, the driver claims he was out riding in his new Hyundai when suddenly, his windshield was shattered by a “ballistic smartphone.” “I thought I caught a stray round or something,” he recalled.
In dashcam footage shared on r/Roadcam, Foxbatt was driving behind a black Mitsubishi in another lane when an object flew out and went straight at his car. He claims he was “sprayed in the hand and face with tiny glass shards” but was fortunately not seriously injured. Needless to say, people were shocked.
Reddit Was in Disbelief at the Odds of Being Hit with Smartphone While Driving
“How does that even happen? I honestly can’t think of a good scenario that would have a cellphone fly out of your car and hit another vehicle!?” a commenter exclaimed in disbelief. “I think someone was taking a picture and the wind caught the phone like a parachute,” suggested another user.
“Omg! So glad it didn’t do some Final Destination stuff and fly through the glass and really hurt or kill someone!” wrote a third in relief. “I’ve had a freshly replaced windshield cracked by gravel, but never a phone!” remarked a fourth.
“Not terrible damage but terrible luck,” Foxbatt sighed. For additional context, he explained that there were bits of glass, plastic, and a chip of sorts on the spot where his windshield had been smashed. Thankfully, none of the shrapnel got into his eyes, but it did allegedly cause some light bleeding on his face.
As to why Foxbatt chose to mark the Reddit post as NSFW, it’s because he swore, which got comically cut off near the end of the video. While many of the commenters were concerned for OP’s safety, one person praised Foxbatt for delivering one of the “Crispest mother [expletive] around.” It probably wasn’t the most thoughtful comment to make, but based on how Foxbatt is no stranger to humor in the comments, he probably appreciated it.
