An egg recall was recently announced in multiple states, and one Indiana grandma is already over it. The woman shares the official recall announcement from Midwest Poultry Services, along with safety tips for cooking eggs. She states, “Now we can’t eat any [expletive] eggs.” Her video has quickly caught attention with over 139,000 views in 6 hours and over 5,000 likes.
The report announces a recall for “1.6 million dozens of shelled white eggs and cage-free brown eggs” and comes from its Texas Distribution Center. The recall impacts the Kroger stores located in Texas and Louisiana. However, it also affects the Brookshire stores in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi, with “New Mexico [added] this morning.” At the time of the video, Indiana wasn’t one of the states listed in the recall.
The eggs are currently sold under “Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire, Country Morning, and Sunups.” The dates listed in the announcement are for July 20 to August 17. The Indiana grandma states the reason for the recall is due to salmonella. She lists the symptoms as fever, diarrhea, cramping, and headaches, along with nausea and vomiting. These develop between 12 and 72 hours after eating the contaminated product.
The woman describes the situation as “awful,” and states she doesn’t believe “there’s much food safety anymore.” She recommends cooking your eggs “over hard, scrambled well, or hard boiled.”
People Are Just As Tired As Indiana Grandma
Several are over the fact that there’s another recall alert for food products. This announcement comes not long after lettuce was recalled for causing an outbreak. However, this hasn’t prevented commenters from shooting back with clever remarks. One person says, “Recalling everything but rent and car notes.” Another states that at this rate we’re “gonna be eating tree bark soon.” Another states, “Eventually all we can eat is refined foods. Like Doritos for breakfast.”
Meanwhile, one person already has a plan: “Welp, looks like I will just stop consuming anything except margaritas and tater tots.” Others are blaming the FDA for the recent recalls, stating, “Smdh groceries are too [expletive] high for the FDA to not do their [expletive] job!” Several have suggestions for how to handle the recall. One asks, “Can we pull a ‘Bugs Life’ as a collective already?” This refers to the bug-themed Pixar film about ants that stand up to grasshoppers. Meanwhile, others suggest buying local produce as an alternative to store-bought products.
The Indiana grandma recommends everyone look up the lot numbers on egg cartons if people are concerned about their eggs being part of the recall.
