A Colorado woman has been dealing with drama left-and-right due to her neighbor’s insistence that she has security cameras pointed on their home. And now it’s led to police officers knocking on her door to reprimand her for what she does with her own yard.
This isn’t the first time Jackie (TikTok/JCB83094) has had confrontations and harassment from her next-door neighbor. In her most recent episode, police officers were sent to speak with her. “The reason we’re over here is because that back camera that’s mounted to your shed faces their property,” one of the officers says.
According to Jackie, it faces her own backyard, some of her property and, in turn, where the neighbor’s fence would’ve been. When it was taken down, Jackie’s security cameras now get a glimpse into the neighbor’s yard, which wasn’t intended.
To this, the officer puts the blame on Jackie, telling her it’s “their property” and they can “take their fence down if they want to.” She then instructs Jackie that the camera “needs to move,” arguing the cameras can see the neighbor’s entire yard or else be handed a citation. Jackie questions how it’s her fault that the neighbor decided to take the fence down, making their yard more susceptible to being captured on her camera.
It seems reasonable enough to have the cameras up, as Jackie explained the neighbors “scream profanities at us.” And worse, Jackie was unsuccessful with a restraining order. More importantly, her neighbor has been successfully charged three times for harassing her.
Jackie’s husband eventually joins in on the conversation, which the officer doesn’t take kindly to. Because of the threats to Jackie’s family, they have the cameras positioned to see the “entire fence line.” Due to their refusal, the police then issue Jackie a citation.
People online argue in favor of Jackie’s cameras
In the comment section of Jackie’s TikTok video, many sided with her, arguing she was well within her right to have her security cameras and that the neighbors were responsible for exposing themselves to it, considering they voluntarily removed the fence. On the subject of the police, some insisted the police were also in the wrong.
One commenter took it a step further, arguing the police abused their powers. “File a complaint against that cop. She is abusing her power for something LEGAL. Cameras are legal.”
Another commenter suspected the police and neighbor being in cahoots. “The neighbor must be friends with the cop for her to come in that hot.”
Jackie was particularly active in the comment section, offering more insight into her neighbor’s behavior, which she states she has evidence of. When a viewer shared a similar experience, Jackie stated, “I have a video of him throwing trash in my yard,” and that she has video proof.
No word on if Jackie will seek legal advice, but given that she has experienced this before and nothing came of it, she’ll continue to have her security cameras operable. Stating in the comment section, Jackie wrote, “This happened a year ago and our cameras are still up.”
