A Minnesota woman’s backyard project took an unexpected turn after she and her partner uncovered what appeared to be an old coffin while digging behind their shed for a planned chicken coop. The discovery quickly caught attention online, with viewers stunned after seeing names and dates engraved on the lid, sparking speculation about the property’s history.

The video was uploaded by TikTok creator Sydney Paige, who posts under the username @the.centerfold1. Within a day, the clip had surpassed one million views and generated thousands of comments as viewers debated what the buried object could be and what the couple should do next.

In the video, the couple can be seen digging into the ground behind their backyard shed before uncovering what appears to be an old coffin lid. Using a broom, they carefully brush away the remaining dirt, revealing the surname “Shaughnessy” engraved across the top. Beneath it are two names, John D., followed by the date May 17, 1946, and Louise (Schaefer) with the date Oct. 27, 1936. A cross symbol is also visible on the marker, suggesting it may have belonged to a Christian burial.

Although many viewers initially assumed the couple had uncovered an actual burial site, others suggested it may instead be an old grave marker that had been removed and discarded after being replaced. The Minnesota woman later shared additional details in the comments, explaining that the property had already produced several unusual discoveries.

While landscaping a few weeks earlier, they found dozens of old beer bottles, cans, and other debris dating back to the 1970s, leading them to believe the backyard had once been used as a dumping area before being covered with soil and grass. The home is also a rental, prompting some viewers to question whether the landlord knew about the buried marker.

Minnesota Backyard Find Sparks Wild Theories

The comment section quickly filled with a mix of jokes, curiosity, and theories. One of the most common running gags claimed the property would now be exempt from taxes because of the discovery, although other users pointed out that the claim was simply a myth. “You see a grave, I see no property taxes,” one viewer joked.

Horror movie comparisons were equally common, with many referencing Poltergeist and warning the creator not to build a pool or continue digging. Others tried to explain the discovery more realistically, suggesting the marker had likely been replaced years ago before ending up buried behind the shed.

Several commenters shared stories about uncovering old headstones or historical objects on their own properties, while many encouraged the creator to research the names engraved on the marker. After the Minnesota woman revealed that earlier digging had uncovered what appeared to be an old backyard dump, even more viewers asked for updates, wondering whether additional headstones or other hidden objects might still be buried beneath the yard.

At this point, what was supposed to become a chicken coop has instead become an unexpected history lesson, and perhaps the only backyard project where a broom turned into the most important excavation tool.
