A back-to-school event aimed at uniting families in Texas erupted into a viral controversy when a woman was recorded threatening to call ICE on a Hispanic mother and her children. The incident, which occurred during a police-hosted community block party and was caught on camera, has garnered thousands of views and prompted a wave of online discussion.
The incident occurred at the yearly Back to School Community Block Party in Garland, Texas. The event was hosted by local school resource officers to help families connect with police before the new school year, according to Daily Dot.
The report claims the incident started when a child from a Mexican family briefly stepped away while waiting in line. When the child tried to return, another woman, described as an African American mother, allegedly told him he could not have his place back because he was “not supposed to be in the country.”
She was also reportedly heard calling the boy “illegal” and threatening to contact ICE on his whole family.
In the video, shared by X user @LongTimeHistory on July 27, 2026, the woman filming can be heard explaining that the other woman claimed the family was “just here to get free stuff,” despite standing in the same line herself.
The confrontation escalates from there, with the accused woman shouting, “I can and will” call ICE while the Hispanic mother pushes back, asserting she is a Mexican-American citizen who was born in the country and has the right to vote.
The argument continues for more than two minutes, with bystanders eventually urging both women to stop, noting children were present.
