It’s part of history

Outrage erupted online after a Muslim teacher in Texas argued during a meeting that children should not be taught about the September 11 terrorist attacks.

A video shared online showed the teacher speaking at what appeared to be a school board meeting attended by district officials. During her remarks, she discussed having to teach fourth-grade students about the 9/11 attacks and al-Qaeda, questioning whether the material was appropriate for children that age. “Why am I teaching this to a fourth grader?” she asked.

The teacher then argued that lessons about 9/11 and al-Qaeda could be “politically charged” and might “fulfill an agenda for somebody.” She added that she did not believe fourth graders or even high school students should be learning the material. The video briefly showed a school board member responding before cutting back to the teacher as she continued explaining her position.

She then claimed that these lessons were “prioritizing politically charged content over basics.” After the teacher finished speaking, a school board member responded. “You said it was for a political agenda that Al-Qaeda is mentioned there. It’s mentioned because Al-Qaeda killed 3,000 Americans on 9/11, and many of our veterans, including our great chairman here, put their lives on the line fighting Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan. So that’s a big, significant part of American history, and you need to understand that as a teacher.” The video ended shortly after that exchange, and it is unclear what happened next.

Viewers Outraged After Muslim Texas Teacher’s 9/11 Comments

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers were outraged after hearing the Texas teacher’s comments about teaching September 11. They argued that such a significant historical event should always be included in the curriculum. “A Muslim teacher in a Texas public school refuses to teach 9/11 because it’s ‘politically charged.’ No. It’s history. Nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered by Islamic terrorists. Fire her. Immediately,” one person wrote. Another commenter asked, “How did she get hired to begin with?”

More viewers expressed outrage over the teacher’s remarks. “Despicable. End public schools,” one person wrote. Another commenter said, “That’s part of American history as horrible it was. But since it is politically charged, one should think about reparations to the victims’ families of 9/11. We do know who they are. She’s in the wrong country with that attitude and profession. Not teaching the truth.”

The video sparked a conversation about the importance of teaching students about 9/11 and the historical context surrounding it. It also led to broader discussion about whether teachers should be expected to teach established curriculum topics, particularly those involving significant historical events, even if they personally disagree with the material.
