A New York couple has sparked widespread discussion online after sharing footage they say shows a neighbor repeatedly harassing them and their service dog over a period of years. The videos, which have gained traction on social media, prompted a wave of support for the couple, with many viewers condemning the woman’s alleged behavior and questioning why the dispute had been allowed to continue for so long.
Rather than showing a single confrontation, the footage comprises a series of encounters that the couple says illustrate the woman’s alleged pattern of harassment. According to the couple, the incidents span several years, rather than being an isolated dispute.
They allege the woman began harassing them before they even got their service dog, Lady, and that the behavior escalated after she arrived. The couple also claims she has repeatedly made false accusations, called police on them, attempted to sue them, and followed or antagonized them in public. They maintain that neither of them has ever threatened the woman and describe the encounters as part of an ongoing campaign of harassment.
In the first video, the couple enter an elevator with their service dog when the woman begins shouting, “Please, stop them! Stop him! I was on here first! Stop him! Get him out of here!” The couple responds that she is free to leave the elevator if she wishes, but that they are legally entitled to be there with their service animal. During the exchange, the woman filming tells her, “You hit us, so get out.”
The second clip shows the woman confronting the couple in a corridor while holding up her phone. She repeatedly accuses them of “terrorizing” her, using expletives before claiming they had waited for her to move her car and alleging they had let their dog urinate on it. She then adds, “Weaponize that dog.”
Another video appears to show the woman following the couple outside while walking her own dog. A separate clip, filmed near the apartment building’s elevator, shows her repeatedly shouting, “Kevin!” as the man asks her not to antagonize the situation and reminds her the elevator door is open if she wishes to use it. “Look, I live here too. I have all the rights you do,” he says, adding that he is also a tenant and is protected under New York law just like she is. The woman responds, “No, you don’t.”
Additional clips appear to show the woman continuing to follow the couple during a walk, while another shows her slowly passing them as they sit eating outside. In a final snippet, the couple film the woman from across the street, claiming she is watching them through the window.
