A DoorDash driver was captured on a Ring camera crashing out outside a customer’s home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after reportedly receiving a $2 tip for a delivery. He appeared visibly upset and called the homeowner every name under the sun while he was there.
The customer shared the footage on TikTok, and the video racked up more than 3 million views and over 500,000 likes.
According to the timestamp on the video, the incident happened around 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The man walked up to her porch and unceremoniously dumped her order on a table while loudly complaining about the tip and insulting the customer.
After lingering for a few more seconds, seemingly to close out the order on his phone, he got back into his car and drove away angrily.
The customer never appears throughout the video. Whether she was home during the driver’s rant is unclear.
In the caption accompanying the TikTok post, the customer revealed she was shocked by the driver’s reaction to receiving a $2 tip, saying he had traveled less than a mile to deliver her order.
Netizens Couldn’t Agree on Who Was in the Wrong
Some netizens on TikTok sided with the driver, arguing that the customer should have tipped more for the service. “That DoorDash driver ain’t wrong,” one commenter wrote. “Two dollar tip is crazy,” another remarked. “These are people making life easier for you and you’re going to give them $2?” a third viewer questioned. A fourth added, “$2 because it’s less than 2 miles away but the dasher may not be your neighbor so they’re taking time out of their day to drive to the restaurant, to your house… common decency doesn’t exist anymore.”
Others, however, felt the customer had done nothing wrong and pointed out that drivers are free to decline orders they don’t want. “Tipping isn’t mandatory yall needa chill out,” one person commented. “He didn’t have to accept that order btw, for the people that are upset about it. Not to mention, the rule of thumb is $1 per mile,” another said. Someone else chimed in, “Door dashing is optional. No one made this man work there.”
Although reactions to the video have been split, it appears the backlash may have gotten to the customer. She has since made her TikTok account private and changed her username.
