The whole gaming community has been collectively feeling the GTA 6 news drought, but that might not be the case anymore. While all of us have been waiting for the game’s third trailer, a glimpse of gameplay, and maybe more details about the story or a tiny teaser of its online mode, we’ll have to wait just a bit longer because Rockstar Games is certainly preparing something, albeit with some gatekeeping. Today, the game’s studio announced that the extended look of GTA 6 will land on August 27, but only through Netflix.
GTA 6: An Extended Look Premieres On August 27 Only on Netflix
Out of all the video game companies out there, Rockstar Games is one of the few that can get away with releasing a trailer for a trailer — and that’s exactly what happened today. While many fans were on the edge of their seats hoping for a third Grand Theft Auto VI trailer or fresh gameplay footage, all they got was a brief teaser announcing that GTA 6: An Extended Look is coming on August 27.
By the sound of it, it seems we’ll get to see more information about GTA 6, maybe some combat, driving, and heist showcases, or something completely different. While we build hypotheses as to what we might get, let’s talk about the big piece of news, which truly confused a lot of people: the gatekeeping or timegating of this new trailer.
The upcoming GTA 6: An Extended Look video, trailer, documentary, or whatever it may end up being, will premiere on Netflix at the aforementioned date at 3 p.m ET. While it will eventually become available on Rockstar Games’ website and YouTube at 9 p.m ET on August 27 (the same day it premieres on Netflix), it is weird to see Rockstar Games doing this exclusive deal with the streaming giant, and something that many were not expecting.
Now, this isn’t the end of the world, as probably everyone has Netflix at this point, so watching it shouldn’t be an issue, assuming we don’t face a Stranger Things situation where all Netflix servers blow up as everyone and their grandmother rushes in to see more about Lucia and Jason. Still, those who don’t have access to it will have to wait a couple of hours to watch it, which is, as we said already, something strange in the whole videogame trailer trends.
Still, at this point, Rockstar Games could delay GTA 6 again, announce another weird feature locked behind a more expensive edition, or place the new trailer behind the most expensive Netflix subscription, and we would gobble it all up in the blink of an eye. That’s how desperate everyone is to return to Vice City, hopefully, in the following months.
