A woman in Austin, Texas, claimed that a Walgreens gave her medication to a random man, and then proceeded to accuse her of drug seeking. Worst of all, they even told her that they were unable to give her her medications after all, telling her she needed a new prescription despite her not being in the wrong at all.
The woman in question is Gracie, who is also known as TravelNurseGracie. As her username indicates, she is a travel nurse who often shares vlogs talking about her career. The clip attached above became one of her biggest, garnering 655,000 views, 59,100 likes, and more than 3,800 comments.
The Texas woman started strong, saying, “I had the craziest HIPAA violation happen to me today.” In this instance, she was on the receiving end of the violation scenario. Gracie had arrived at a local Walgreens to pick up her Wellbutrin prescription. She had been previously notified that it was ready.
However, when she arrived, the pharmacy tech told her otherwise, saying, “We don’t have any medication for you, actually.” Turns out, someone had picked up her medications. The pharmacy said she did, but Gracie denied it.
The tech, after giving her a “weird look,” called for her manager. She arrived and, similarly, told her that she had, in fact, picked up her medications the day before.
“Now I’m being accused of drug seeking,” the Texas woman said. “[…] It’s not like it’s oxycodone or adderall. Why are you accusing me, saying I picked them up?“
Cameras Checked
Gracie then felt threatened when the manager told her she could check the cameras. The travel nurse, however, was certain she didn’t pick up her Wellbutrin, so she agreed.
Around 20 minutes later, the manager came back and asked Gracie if she drove a white Toyota pickup truck. She didn’t, and then the manager told her it was a “look-alike and sound-alike situation.” The one who picked up Gracie’s medication was a man. Most likely, he wasn’t named Gracie and didn’t look or sound like her.
“They completely gave my meds to the wrong person with all of my personal information on there,” Gracie said.
The incident didn’t stop there. Gracie didn’t receive her medications despite the mix-up on Walgreens’ behalf. She was told that she would need to get a new prescription because the other ones had “already been sold.”
Reactions
The prescription mix-up sparked multiple responses, mostly from viewers who found it preposterous. One said, “That’s not only a HIPAA issue. It’s a HUGE safety issue.” Another one commented, “Drug seeking Wellbutrin? What a bizarre assumption to make.”
Others told Gracie to lawyer up and/or seek the authorities. One wrote, “As someone in the medical field, you need to sue.” Another one added, “Report it. The pharm tech and the pharmacist should no longer be licensed!“
Currently, the Texas woman is contemplating taking action against those involved in this terrible mix-up. After all, she and the man were impacted in different ways, which could lead to concerning results.
