A Tennessee man sparked outrage online after a video showed him driving while a dog was leashed outside the moving car.
A driver who was traveling behind the man filmed the footage and shared it online. In the video, the man appeared to be driving slowly while a dog was leashed outside the vehicle. The leash appeared to be attached to the dog, causing the moving car to pull the animal along beside it.
The video appeared to show the dog struggling to keep up as the car continued pulling it forward while the man drove. The situation was even more concerning because other vehicles were on the road, creating additional risks for the dog and potentially other drivers if the situation had escalated.
“Boy you can get a 100 [expletive] years,” the woman filming said, referring to the potential legal consequences the man could face. She repeated that he could go to jail for a long time. At one point, the dog appeared to try to get inside the vehicle, bringing its head toward one of the locked doors. The rest of the video showed the dog’s legs appearing to hit each other as the moving car continued pulling it forward.
After the woman posted the video, one person asked her in the comments, “Call the police instead of just recording.” She responded by saying that she had called the police. She also shared a screenshot that allegedly showed the man who was driving the vehicle.
The screenshot included a post by Action News 5 featuring a mugshot of the alleged driver. According to the post, police arrested him again after he violated his bond. The reported reason for the arrest was “intentionally” maiming a dog by dragging it behind a car in Memphis. The woman’s video shows this. The post also stated that witnesses said the dog suffered road rash across its body and that its paw pads and toenails were “gone.” It remains unclear whether the dog received the medical care it needed.
