A Pennsylvania mom is defending a woman who posed as a security guard to reprimand her misbehaving son at a Dave & Buster’s in the Pittsburgh area. While some viewers questioned whether the stranger went too far, the boy’s mom had a very different reaction to the unusual encounter.
The video was posted by @Jessquarter0412 — aka Jess — on TikTok. The mom of four typically shares snippets of her family life and everyday experiences with her followers. One of her latest clips centers on a brief interaction between her son and a woman who pretended to be a security guard at a Dave & Buster’s arcade and entertainment venue.
In the footage, the woman is seen holding Jess’s son by the arm as she firmly tells him, “I’m not gonna hurt you, but what I’m telling you is: I work here and I will put you out. Do you understand me?” She then warns him that if she finds out he has been misbehaving, “it’s gonna be a problem,” before adding, “I know what hotel you’re staying at — the Hampton, right?” The kid nods and looks visibly upset during the exchange, his lower lip quivering as though he may burst into tears at any moment.
Interestingly, the person filming can be heard laughing in the background throughout the exchange. At the end of the stern conversation, the self-proclaimed “security guard” offers the young boy a hug, but he shakes his head and declines.
While the interaction may appear harsh at first, Jess later provided some important context about what happened before she started filming. She explained that the woman had seen one of her sons kick the other as they were walking into the venue and tapped Jess on the shoulder to let her know he had been misbehaving. Rather than being upset about the intervention, Jess said the pair subsequently became friends and made her feelings about the “security guard” clear: “Let me just say I love this woman!!!”
Social Media Reactions
The woman’s no-nonsense approach proved popular with many viewers, with several arguing that kids sometimes need to hear things from someone other than their parents. “I’ve learned sometimes kids need to hear it from someone other than mom and dad. I loved this,” one person wrote, while another remarked, “This was the norm back in the day.”
Others took a more humorous approach to the encounter. “Does she do birthday parties?” one viewer joked, while another referenced the woman’s stern demeanor by writing, “This must be the Jessica we’ve all heard of.”
Not everyone was completely comfortable with the interaction, however. One viewer took issue with the physical contact, writing, “I don’t like the grabbing of the arm though.” Other commenters saw things differently, with one arguing, “For all the parents that have a problem with this. Yall are the problem. It takes a village.”
Jess herself continued to push back against the criticism surrounding the clip, explaining that she and the woman actually became friends after the encounter. She even said she hoped to find her again so they could “be friends forever.”
While the woman’s stern approach may not sit well with everyone, Jess clearly appreciated having another adult looking out for her kids. Judging by the reaction online, plenty of viewers felt the same way, with the unusual encounter becoming a reminder of the old saying that sometimes it really does take a village to raise a child.
