Restaurant work can be very demanding, which is why one Oregon waitress went the extra mile to ask the customers she served where her tip was. “Going the extra mile” might be a little more than a metaphor in this case, as the worker allegedly chased the diners down the sidewalk to make sure she was tipped.

In a post on r/EndTipping, Reddit user ForwardPhase8401 claimed that she and her husband ate out with friends at an upscale restaurant. The bill was $200, so her husband generously tipped their server $40, based on 20% of the total. He mistakenly wrote “tip on table,” even though  ForwardPhase says they tipped the waitress directly in her hand.

The Oregon Waitress Allegedly Claimed She Forgot She Had Been Tipped in Cash Earlier

“After we left and were walking down the sidewalk, the waitress literally chased us down, stopped us, and asked where the tip was,”  ForwardPhase recalled. To the group’s surprise, the server was adamant they hadn’t left her a tip until they reminded her that the husband literally handed her $40 in cash before receiving the bills. Upon remembering, the waitress apologized, saying she’d been doing her job for 20+ years and felt extremely embarrassed.

ForwardPhase says that this confrontation with the server has been “the weirdest tipping experience” she’s ever had, as no one’s ever chased her down over a tip. “I guess she thought she was getting even more?” she questioned, and plenty of Redditors thought the same. “It seems like maybe she thought that there was additional money left in the table that disappeared,” supposed a Redditor.

“This was the same person that received your cash tip directly who then chased you down? I’d really be asking for my tip returned to me at that point,” remarked another. A third person suggested OP report the server. “Chasing someone out of the restaurant for not tipping is completely unacceptable behavior,” they wrote.

“She doesn’t care about anything but her money,” accused a fourth. Others pointed out how the state of Oregon doesn’t allow tipped minimum-wage credit, making some feel even more critical of the waitress’s behahvior. Still, it’s hard to argue that this server wasn’t more than determined to get her tip, even if it meant chasing down her customers.
