A heartwarming moment unfolded in Texas after a young boy thanked his mother for voting for James Talarico.
The mother shared a video of her son sitting inside their car shortly after she had voted. “Who did you vote for?” he asked her. She responded, “Who do you think?” The boy then smiled and guessed, “James Talarico?” Talarico, a Democratic state representative, is running against Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for a U.S. Senate seat in the November 3 election.
After his mother confirmed she had voted for Talarico, the boy smiled brightly and thanked her, then gave her a hug to show his appreciation. “You’re welcome, baby,” she told him at the end of the video.
The mother also shared more details in the caption, writing, “I do it for my kids!” She explained that her son was nine years old and had “felt the hate at school from kids who are raised in MAGA households.”
The mother added that she lived in a deeply conservative community and that her son was a second-generation American. “His roots are Mexican and he is proud of both being Mexican and American! So often he will wear his Mexico jersey to school,” she wrote.
According to the mother, her son had been subjected to racial slurs while wearing the jersey, with other students allegedly telling him to go back to Mexico. “While I’m teaching my son love and respect, maga children are learning hate in their homes. At first I was mad, then I felt sad to realize a child feels hate toward a jersey,” she added.
She continued by explaining why she believed political choices mattered, writing, “It really is that deep who you vote for. When you have someone in office who promotes hate, it makes others very comfortable in showing hate.” At the end of the caption, she said she asked her son whether he wanted to stop wearing his Mexico jersey to avoid being bullied. However, he told her that he still intended to wear it.

Other parents also shared similar experiences with their children after voting. One woman recalled how her sons noticed her voting sticker and asked who she had voted for. “My boys saw my voting sticker, asked who I voted for and when my oldest heard he said ‘good choice, hopefully something changes bc I’m tired of seeing my friends show up sad bc their parents are getting taken or some just stop showing up’ I also voted blue in a really red community, some may say it won’t matter but every vote counts and hopefully we see change,” she wrote. Another mother shared her seven-year-old’s reaction, saying, “My kid ‘you didn’t vote for Paxton did you? He’s a bad guy’ he’s 7.”
