While talking with GameSpot, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot revealed that there wonโ€™t be a new Assassinโ€™s Creed released in 2019:

“On Assassin’s, we had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin’s next year. It’s just because the team were working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully fledged one.”

GameSpot then asked Guillemot if there were plans to release a spin-off of the main Assassinโ€™s Creed series. Guillemot replied:

“What you’ll have is lots of content coming on [Assassin’s Creed Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you’re going to get in for a couple of years, actually.”

It seems that Ubisoft is adopting the same strategy that helped them reinvent the Assassinโ€™s Creed franchise a few years ago. For those who donโ€™t remember, Ubisoft took a year-long break in 2016 to re-evaluate the franchise. To many gamers, the AC series became stale with its stalling story and repetitive gameplay.

That all changed with 2017โ€™s Assassinโ€™s Creed: Origins. Origins reinvigorated the franchise by using a more RPG oriented approach with upgradeable weapons, armor, and skills.

Ubisoft

As the Ubisoft CEO stated, Assassinโ€™s Creed: Odyssey will be the last main installment of the series for a while. Odyssey will take all of what made Origins feel fresh and amplify it in more meaningful ways. This will also be the first time you can select your protagonistโ€™s gender and dialogue.

Assassinโ€™s Creed: Odyssey will release October 5th, 2018 for Xbox One, PS4, and Windows PC.

Are you onboard with this franchise skipping a new game in 2019? What were your thoughts on AC: Origins? Was it a success for Ubisoft? Let us know in the comments and be sure to follow us here at The Nerd Stash for all of your nerdy news and needs!
