Ohio Resident Says Power Lines Behind His Home Keep Exploding, Knocking Out 18 Houses: ‘This Goes Beyond Mildly Infuriating’

That looks rather dangerous

Having the power to your home knocked out regularly sounds nightmarish, yet one Ohio resident says this has been going on in his neighborhood for years. Posting to r/mildlyinfuriating under the username Neurotic_addendum, he shared a video of the power lines connected to his home bouncing around before striking each other, causing what he calls an “explosion.” Fortunately, the fuse blows before any major damage occurs, but things are allegedly getting worse.

The powerlines behind my house keep exploding and the electrical company won’t do anything about it

“Almost all of the insulation is gone. It really needs to be replaced with triplex; it is in terrible shape and only getting worse,” Neurotic explained. “It’s been happening since 2017.” Apparently, all the power company does is send someone to turn the power back on by reconnecting the fuse, without actually doing repairs.

This Electrical Issue Has Been Affecting Multiple Homes for Years

Neurotic said he spoke with the worker responsible this time, but the discussion wasn’t very promising. “He said they probably won’t fix it, but he can send a request,” he recalled. This recurring problem hasn’t been just affecting OP’s home, but multiple neigbors as well. “The whole line of power lines from behind my house to behind my neighbor’s house bounces around and arcs, knocking power out to 18 houses,” said Neurotic.

Redditors couldn’t believe what they saw and were flabbergasted that anyone could live like this. “This really shouldn’t be happening,” remarked a user. “Call the fire department,” suggested another.

“I think this goes beyond mildly infuriating tbh,” wrote a third, to which Neurotic responded: “I think I’ve just gotten used to it.” The only thing keeping this situation from becoming “extremely infuriating” for OP is the fact that the fuse on the pole disconnects before anything much more dangerous happens.

Fortunately, Neurotic might have gotten the ball rolling on forwarding the issue to someone who might finally have it fixed. He updated the situation in the comments, saying that he contacted his utility company and sent them photos and videos of the problem. “They said they would forward it to a technician for investigation,” so the issue has been escalated further than sending someone just to reconnect the fuse. Now all that’s left is to wait.
