Getting fired is often the worst-case scenario for any employee, but for one former co-manager in an Indiana mall, it was the best possible thing that could have happened. In their post on r/talesfromthejob, Reddit user Just Czeching explains how they’d been fired after 30 minutes of starting their new position at a mall boutique. They had even arrived 10 minutes early, only to be told their role had been terminated because they didn’t show up to work the day before.
The twist here is that there was no “day before” because Czeching says they weren’t even scheduled for that day. But this wasn’t the first red flag OP had sensed about this new job. It all began when, during a visit to the store to discuss HR paperwork, Czeching says the GM was awfully annoyed that they couldn’t work at times when they weren’t available.
Then, Czeching said they saw some “crazy red flags” when glancing over the handbook. There were bizarre and even illegal rules, such as not having any liquid while on shift, a ban on cellphones in the store, a restriction on entering the store even off-shift, and a weird distance policy with co-workers. Then came the first day at work, followed by being fired 30 minutes after starting.
OP Claims the GM Has a Criminal Record and Even Was Arrested While Working at the Company that Hired Them
The madness continues, as Czeching says the corporate person they spoke with prior to being hired claimed she’d been fired too over something petty. It gets more wild. “Months later, the GM’s mugshot popped up on social media. She was arrested for stealing from her former employer,” OP added to the mix. This was actually news from the year prior; the year Czeching was working, the GM was arrested again for theft at the mall boutique where they’d been hired and fired.
“Idk maybe let us know what company this is so we all stay far away from,” suggested a commenter, to which Czeching responded, saying it was the dollar store makeup shop, Miss A. “You dodged a huge bullet for sure. Imagine if you had worked there any she implicated you in her crimes,” remarked another user. “I’ve never been so thankful for getting fired,” OP replied in relief.
What was quite unusual was how Czeching says they had to approve for a background check with Miss A. This is odd, considering the GM had been hired by the company six months after getting arrested. Regardless, in the end, OP has never been more relieved to have been fired in such record time.
