Reddit user DarkSideInRainbows seemingly mourns the pool’s removal, posting photos of the spot on r/pics, where over 25k people tuned into the news. They say this is happening “after Republicans voted to pull state funding.” Other commenters also couldn’t help but point the blame at the GOP. “Looks like another small town paying the price for Republican issues. Sorry bud,” sighed a Redditor.
DarkSideInRainbows pointed out that signs set placed around the Shanklin Pool say “Stolen by Joanna King,” the Republican State Representative for Indiana. “I have never seen a state work so hard to go against the interest of its citizens. It is mind blowing,” added another user, cursing King in their comment. “Oh, they’re probably gonna build a data center there,” sarcastically wrote a third in r/Indiana.
While many point the blame to Republican leadership and the voters that got them there, some users point out that the place’s popularity was dying in the first place. In an interview with Christians Engaged, King emphasized the importance of state-level government, including the need to include the Bible in politics.
Such a PR move will definitely give her a good rep among Goshen Christians and conservatives, unless perchance they were hoping to visit the community pool.
