An Ohio mom received mixed reactions after she uploaded a video on TikTok of her 5-year-old son getting his ears pierced. She said the little boy had been begging her for months to let him get them done, and she finally gave in.
Although the boy looked pretty pleased with the end result in the video, not everyone online was nearly as thrilled. While some saw absolutely nothing wrong with the child having his ears pierced, others questioned why his mom allowed him to get them at such a young age.
In the clip, the 5-year-old was seated in a chair while two attendants stood on either side of him, each preparing to pierce one ear. On the count of three, they pierced both ears simultaneously.
The boy briefly scrunched his face, but he started smiling when everyone around him began hyping him up and complimenting his new look. “It looks so cute,” one attendant said, while the other called the result “fantastic” and told him it looked good.
They then held up a mirror for the boy so he could get a look at his new earrings. He looked at his reflection and nodded, seemingly happy with how they turned out.
When the video started circulating online, netizens jumped in to give their own opinions.
Viewers Couldn’t Agree on the Mom’s Decision
In the comments section, some people criticized the mom, arguing that she should have told her son no despite his repeated requests to get a piercing.
“This is beyond ridiculous,” one person wrote. “Why would you do that to a little boy?” another asked. “Just because they beg for something doesn’t mean they should have it. The [expletive] is wrong with you,” a third commented. “What’s wrong with parents nowadays?” a fourth chimed in.
One commenter accused her of “child abuse.” Another stated, “Parents need to be in jail.” Someone else accused her of being one of the “moms forcing things on their kids.”
At the same time, other viewers said they couldn’t understand what all the outrage was about, particularly since the boy reportedly wanted the piercings himself.
“Why are people questioning this? Because he’s a kid? Plenty of men have both ears pierced. I did in my early 20,” a comment read. “It’s not that big of a deal,” another agreed.
They also praised the mom for letting her son have a say over his appearance. “Im stoked that you are allowing him to make his own choices with his body… literally so cool as a parent,” a supporter said. Another added, “He did so good! look at the handsome little guy.”
Despite the criticism, the mom has said she does not regret letting her son get his ears pierced and maintained that he was happy with his new earrings.
