Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders criticized government giveaways, saying taxpayers ultimately pay when politicians promise “free” benefits. Her remarks drew attention after President Donald Trump announced a proposed $5,000 dividend for adults if Republicans win Congress. Sanders contrasted Republican economic policies with Democratic spending and argued Arkansas had taken the opposite approach.

All those “free” things Democrats want to give you? Someone eventually has to pay for it.

In the clip, Sanders said strong economies come from “encouraging work,” creating opportunity and lowering taxes. She argued Democrats “want to give everything away” and said taxpayers eventually “pick up the check.”

She then pointed to New York, saying its mayor campaigned on giveaways that now require someone to pay. Sanders contrasted that approach with Arkansas and said people were moving into the state.

The governor said Arkansas had cut its state income tax by 25 percent. She said the reduction returned $1.5 billion to people who were “working hard to earn it.” Sanders also called Arkansas the top state for incoming residents per capita over the last two years.

She said Republicans were encouraging work and supporting families while “blue states” were doing the opposite. Sanders predicted voters would notice the difference in November and support Republicans “up and down the ticket.”

The timing of Sanders’ warning became the focus of criticism, with users repeatedly contrasting it with Trump’s $5,000 proposal.

“Yesterday: ‘$5,000 for every adult!’ Today: ‘WHO’S GOING TO PAY FOR ALL THIS FREE STUFF?!’ Sarah, check your group chat,” one user wrote. Another asked, “Do you even hear yourself after the $5,000 Trump promised last night? Are you kidding me?”

Others challenged Sanders’ decision to single out Democratic spending. “You used New York as an example, but why not the president and the countless things he has put on American taxpayers!?” one response stated.

Another questioned the timing directly: “How is it possible that you posted this 12 hours after Trump promised $5000 to every American adult?”

Sanders did not address Trump’s $5,000 proposal in the remarks provided. Her comments left her position on that proposal unanswered.
