A Louisiana man shared on social media a bizarre encounter he had with a driver in a pickup truck. He got the feeling he was being followed and, after confronting the driver, discovered it wasn’t all in his head. The driver tailing him made it very clear he indeed was tailing him in the neighborhood.
TikTok user _Develle posted a video of himself out and about in his neighborhood when a man in a Ford pickup truck suddenly approached him. Develle then asks if the older man was following him. Surprisingly, the driver was very open about his intentions. “Yeah, I’m following ya! I wanted to know who you were.”
This prompts Develle to grab the driver’s license plate, which reveals he’s a U.S. Navy veteran. As if that wasn’t a shock enough, the man also shares he’s an ex-cop.
Develle returns, telling the ex-cop, “Okay, you can go about your business,” and leaves him alone. The man responds with, “That’s good. I got your license plate, too!” He continues in an intimidating tone, “I’m an ex-cop. And I got plenty of friends that are cops. But I’m glad you’re not speeding through my neighborhood.”
Develle plays the man’s little game and says, “I also know where you live, too.” Then, as he backs away from the man’s vehicle, he tells the ex-cop, “Go play,” like a little child. In response, the old man scolds Develle for speeding.
Viewers call the ex-cop out for intimidation and racism
Develle’s audience was outraged by the driver’s intimidation tactics and speculated on his intentions, arguing it was racially motivated. Others chose to mock the veteran and ex-cop, including the original poster.
“He mad his truck don’t have A/C,” wrote Develle in the comments, making light of the situation. But in the thread that follows, a viewer insisted Develle should have called 911 and told the police the driver was “claiming to be a police officer.”
One viewer called out the ex-cop for being a bigot. “He’s used to intimidating black people. Former cop in Louisiana is a deadringer for a RACIST.” Another viewer considered what he did “intimidation.”
Develle’s TikTok video really highlights how subtle bigotry can be. After all, what was the point of the driver sharing that he was an ex-cop, had friends who were cops, and got Develle’s license plate number?
