A Baltimore, Maryland woman was walking in her neighborhood when she found something concerning in a back lot. She discovered that somebody has been dumping artificial turf in the neighborhood illegally. Now, she’s trying to get to the bottom of the mystery that’s causing chaos in her neighborhood.
Kintira (@kintirabarbour) saw something that left her confused and concerned in her Baltimore neighborhood. As she was walking, she passed a back lot that isn’t owned by any of her neighbors but borders many of their properties. Somebody dumped LOADS of artificial turf on this property. As she records, you can see rolls and rolls of turf that were illegally dumped there and left for the neighbors to deal with.
Kintira notices the turf has blue and orange spray paint on it, and she believes it may belong to Morgan State University, but other universities also use those colors. She and other commenters think someone working with a contracting company illegally dumped the turf there because they had nowhere else to take it. Now, Kintira says that “some of the individuals that work in the community” are concerned and wonder what they’re supposed to do with all the turf. There’s so much turf that it won’t be easy to get rid of. As she pans around to show the turf, she says, “This is not normal.”
Kintira says she and other community members are “going to find out” who left this turf and why. She said they’ll be starting with the universities. According to her, they’re going to try and locate a “company that was hired” to take care of the garbage but instead left it in their neighborhood.
Commenters immediately responded to Kintira’s video, sparking many reactions after she posted it. One commenter suggested, “It’s those bulk pickup/hauling companies. And they only dump in our neighborhoods.” Another commenter added, “Whoever this turf belonged to needs to get a fine for illegally dumping.”
Others said Baltimore has an illegal dumping problem beyond private neighborhoods. One commenter added, “Baltimore has to do something about all this dumping. Especially in our parks! I’m sick of seeing tires and household furniture on the side of the road where I drive. It’s out of control!” Commenters continue to share their stories and reactions on Kintira’s video as it gains popularity.
