A Texas homeless shelter’s TikTok video depicting a rep handling a new guest with the utmost respect is going viral online. The rep is nothing but kind as he clearly states where to go and what to do, as well as tending to their most important need.
Texas’s Dallas Life Shelter showed a day in the life of an employee working within its sheltered walls in a wholesome TikTok video. He calls to check on a new entry named Cynthia, who is now living at Dallas Life. He asks her how her first night was and checks to see if she has any questions for them so he can assist them further if need be.
The employee types away while he’s doing his job, smiling and clearly happy. After all, being in that position means you’re in charge of making a difference in someone’s life. He tells her she’s all “checked in for another night” and lets her know that she can come back tomorrow for another ticket so she can continue staying there. Just hearing someone say “I got you” when you’re in such a desperate situation is heavy!
The rep finally tells her she’s able to access the “thrift store,” once she speaks with an “Isaac” to write her a pass, so she can get herself some new-to-her clothing, which is so life-changing for many people staying in shelters. At the end, she thanks him and he offers her a kind smile and adds, “God bless you.”
Texas Viewers lend support
Given the nearly 40,000 Likes and hundreds of comments, Dallas Life Shelter saw a low of support in the comments, with many enthralled by the atmosphere and the rep’s helpful and caring nature.
“‘I got you’ must be the most beautiful thing to hear when you are at rock bottom 💙💙💙,” one viewer speculated. Straight from someone in that position before, wrote, “I’ve been homeless before and it’s very dehumanizing. Thank you for treating them with love and respect!”
Another commenter went as far as to say homeless shelters like this should be “federally funded and all over.” Someone’s dignity shouldn’t be stripped because they’re having a hard go at life.
Others offered their services, with one TikTok user asking, “Do you guys have a way for people to donate stuff or even volunteer?” The Dallas Life Shelter responded, giving helpful advice on the next step.
Videos like this can restore anyone’s faith in humanity. And it’s especially nice to know people in positions to do that actually enjoy doing it.
