U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert recently denied accusations that she had affairs with three members of her staff, including two women. The denial was met with strong criticism from Colorado residents, as many did not seem to believe that the Republican politician was innocent.
As reported by The Daily Beast, Boebert was recently accused of having inappropriate relationships with Clarice Navarro, Jeffrey Small, and Raven Finegan, all of whom previously worked under her as directors or chiefs of staff. The accusations also allege that she paid one of them $200,000 to remain silent about the affair.
Under the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, members cannot have intimate relationships with anyone they supervise, regardless of consent, unless they are married to each other.
Boebert denied all the accusations. According to her, “I’m not a lesbian or bisexual, and I have never, ever been in any inappropriate relationship.” The complaint was filed by American Muckrakers’ David B. Wheeler.
Colorado Reacts to Lauren Boebert’s Scandal
The accusations against Boebert were met with a strong reaction on Reddit’s r/Colorado. Most Colorado residents did not believe her, and one of them wrote: “Resign. So embarrassed for Colorado for electing this gross, creepy, wildly unqualified POS of a human.” Someone else asked: “Why pay someone $200k if she is innocent of the claims?”
Some folks also used the opportunity to criticize the GOP’s general anti-LGBT stance: “If MAGA just all came out of their respective closets and stopped oppressing people out of their own self-hatred, the world would be a better place.”
Others disagreed that Boebert’s sexuality should be the focus of the scandal: “A Congressmember had multiple affairs with staffers and bribed one to quit and stay quiet. That is the important, criminal issue here. The fact that the Congressmember is a lesbian shouldn’t matter.”
However, not everyone was skeptical of Boebert. One user had a different view, for example: “Not to defend her or anything, but something tells me this may be a form of retaliation against her for voting to support the release of the Epstein files.”
It’s too early to say how these accusations may affect Boebert, but it seems that at least some Colorado voters are not so eager to believe her.
