Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate David Crowley accused his Republican opponent, Tom Tiffany, of lying during a recent interview in which he claimed that he never voted to continue the war with Iran. The accusations made waves online, with Wisconsin residents calling the candidate untrustworthy.
In a recent X post, Crowley shared a short clip from an interview with Tiffany. In the footage, Tiffany can be seen being questioned about why he continues to vote to keep the war with Iran going, despite rising inflation. Tiffany says: “I have not voted no.”
However, records show that he voted five times against ending the war, just as Crowley claimed. The votes happened on March 5, April 16, May 14, June 30, and July 23.
Wisconsin Reacts to Tiffany’s Stance on War With Iran
While commenting on r/Wisconsin, many residents criticized Tiffany for lying about his previous actions. Someone said: “If the GOP couldn’t lie, they’d be silent.” Others added: “Yeah right, he’ll still vote whatever Daddy Trump wants him to.”
Some seemingly Democratic voters believed that Crowley was right to highlight the issue: “Crowley has the right strategy here. Point out that Tiffany says one thing, but he consistently does another, and if you elect him, do you think you’re going to get what he says, or what he always does?”
Others agreed: “This is actually a pretty powerful message I’d like to see in more ads. Tiffany is a liar and opportunist. Some PAC needs to be highlighting the fact that he’s pretending to be a moderate- maybe even parody that whole “you betcha” gimmick he’s been leaning on?”
However, in the original post on X, the criticism was more directly aimed at Crowley, perhaps because of the more conservative nature of the social media network. For instance, users said: “Iran can’t have a nuke. If Iran gets a nuke, Crowley, there won’t be any Milwaukee for you to raise taxes on.”
Some folks also defended Tiffany, saying, “He is a Patriot, not an American hater and liar like you!”
As the election for governor of Wisconsin draws near, it remains to be seen how the war with Iran and Tiffany’s record on supporting it could affect the results.
