Future Florida Resident Shocked to Discover that a $900 Budget Isn’t Enough to Live in the State: ‘Maybe Something Like a Closet’

You’ll need much more

When it comes to relocating to another state, having access to online places, such as Reddit, is great, as you can ask for advice from those living in the place you want to move to. Yet, there are times when some people have no idea about what to expect when relocating. To give you an example, a Redditor living in Minnesota is trying to move to Miami, Florida, and is asking if $900 is enough to live in the city. You can already imagine what Floridians had to say about that.

Looking to relocate to Miami in February or later — $900/month budget, pet-friendly options?

The post comes from a person living in Minnesota right now who wants to move to Miami, Florida, with their dog and two cats. They said in the post that they are looking for a small apartment, studio, or even a place to stay around South Beach. Furthermore, they mentioned they work as a delivery driver, saying that a place near a Walmart would be ideal. To wrap it up, they said they are not looking for anything luxurious, as long as it is safe, affordable, and pet-friendly.

Well, it seems that the “affordability” part triggered some alarms among Floridians, especially after seeing the $900 budget. According to those who saw the now-viral post, $900 a month is almost impossible for living in Miami.

Some Florida Redditors thought this post was some sort of satire. Yet, it seems that the OP is serious, as they really broke down everything they are looking for, as well as how much they earn and their plans. Still, it seems that many locals are in the same boat, recommending that the “future resident” look at their options and budget, and consider a different city.

Florida Locals Are Urging OP To Consider Other Options

The comments are a mix of sarcastic remarks and helpful advice, with the former being the most common ones.

“You don’t. This has to be satire.“

“Maybe something like a closet.“

Yet others urged OP to wait a bit or look elsewhere.

“As you can tell from comments, you’re simply not going to find anything in that price range. Much less with a dog and two cats. If you come down initially without your pets, you might find a rental share of a one-bedroom. Then you can think of bringing them once you’re established. But now? Highly doubtful.“

Some still mentioned that they could find some $1000 options around Dale, but even so, it might be challenging, especially with pets.
