While gas prices can undoubtedly spark political debate these days, no one can deny that these high costs do no one good. Truck drivers, in particular, are assuredly paying much more than they used to, and Reddit user HashnaFennec shared her fuel receipt on Reddit to prove it. While traveling through Illinois, her refueling ended up costing her over a thousand dollars.
“$1,139.19 – The price of fueling my semi-truck,” Hashna remarked, posting a photo of her receipt as proof. She added that, as someone who transports food, this gas expense is actually not as expensive as it can get if she was delivering frozen goods. As to how much $1,139 will get her, Hashna claims this much fuel is good for around 1,000 miles or so, depending on the route and weight of the haul.
No one needs an explanation that gas prices are already higher than they’ve been in a while, but a few people were curious what Hashna would have had to pay ‘back then’ for a normal refueling. She responded, saying, “A couple years ago, the same amount of fuel would have cost me about $600.” For reference, the US Energy Information Administration reports that diesel prices in the Midwest averaged around $3.71 last year; this year, they’re now roughly $6.48.
Increased diesel costs for truckers mean higher prices for the goods being delivered, and many Redditors in the comments blame the current administration. “140mil people voted for this. You all voted for this,” remarked a user. “That trucker convoy to DC really worked. You idiots are owning the libs so hard right now. Good job!” sarcastically exclaimed another.
“That was an expensive ‘make liberals cry’ vote. We as a nation should probably not do that again,” expressed a third. “But isn’t Trump amazing? It could probably only hold $700 of fuel previously and somehow magically now can hold $1100! That’s totally magical!” mocked a fourth.
The Trucker Who Posted Claimed She Didn’t Vote For This
Hashna made sure to clarify that she didn’t vote for this, even though she implies other truck drivers she knows might have. “I’ve thought of trying to organize an anti-trump convoy, but unfortunately most of my colleagues are idiots,” she sighed. With gas prices like this, neither consumers nor delivery truckers win.
