A Florida medical student said that her final day of internship became a horrible experience when Hilton hotel staff called the police on her because of a checkout dispute. She said that she had just finished a 13-hour surgical shift and returned to her hotel around 8:30 p.m. She said that she should’ve checked out at noon but failed to do so because of the long surgery, but she still argued that calling the police on her was out of line.
The story was uploaded to the woman’s TikTok account, which goes by the username stefficasi. It got several hundred thousand views, and many commenters sided with the medical student.
The Florida medical student claimed that her father had informed the Hilton hotel she was staying at about the situation. He said that the hotel had charged his card $250, which made the student think that it would cover the next night’s stay and that she would be able to sleep at the hotel that night. However, when she returned, the staff said that the charge was for missing checkout.
The woman asked if she could book another night and pay the extra amount, but the situation somehow escalated, with the staff disputing her late-checkout arrangement and calling her a liar before telling her to leave. Things escalated even further when the police were called, which the medical student said was utterly unnecessary. Ironically, the hotel still let her stay afterward. The woman described the experience as extremely humiliating and criticized the staff for their actions. She also demanded that Hilton review the incident.
Florida Medical Student Gets Support From Hilton Workers
Commenters who saw the video were mostly on the Florida medical student’s side. Many agreed that the staff was out of line, with some viewers claiming to work for Hilton and saying that the woman hadn’t done anything wrong.
“Nah!!! I work for Hilton. That’s your room if they charge you. They charged you AND sold the room. Girl, call Diamond Desk and make sure to write a bad review. This is crazy!” one user wrote.
One user remarked that a similar incident had happened to another Black person who stayed at Hilton. The reply left the Florida woman disappointed in Hilton. Others also remarked that this incident made them unwilling to stay at any other Hilton hotel.
Though the incident ended up relatively well, with the medical student able to rest in her room, the whole thing still left a bad taste in many people’s mouths. Hilton has yet to release a statement regarding the incident, so we’ll need to wait and see if someone is going to get fired or not.
