Allegedly, this all occurred because her son was sometimes borrowing snacks from other children due to her financial struggles. The teacher allegedly did not like seeing this and began to single out her son and another child from an immigrant family over the practice.
The story was shared by Lucy, who goes by karussee on TikTok. The video she uploaded got several hundred thousand views, and many commenters expressed outrage at what happened to her son.
Lucy shared her experience with the intention of encouraging immigrant parents to speak up if their children also experience bullying at school. She said that she felt the need to advocate for children, especially children with parents who might feel intimidated by teachers or school administrators. She said that issues like language barriers and financial difficulties shouldn’t stop parents from protesting if they see any issues at school.
In the video that she shared, the Maryland mother got quite emotional during the conversation, saying that her son had developed anxiety because he felt he was being targeted by his teacher. She also pointed out the double standards, saying that her child was singled out just because he was Black, while other kids were allowed to borrow or swap snacks with other children.
Lucy also clarified that her son was fed. The issue with this bullying was only about snacks, which the boy didn’t have because of her financial struggles. However, she argued that her son shouldn’t be made to feel less because of his skin color and their financial situation.
