According to Comicbook.com, Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage, spoke with fans at Baltimore Comic-Con over the weekend about where the show will go in season three:
“I think the plan for season 3 is to explore Luke’s ability to govern and be fair. At the end, we talk about there being a new sheriff in town, a new king in Harlem,” Colter said. “We’re going to see how he deals with this power, because we know absolute power can corrupt absolutely. And sometimes when you don’t have someone checking you, someone to put you in place, someone to tell you ‘you can’t do that,’ we sometimes get out of control. We see that everywhere.”
“Luke is in Harlem, and so Harlem is going to be his place that he’s going to have to control. And I think he’s decided to use organized crime in a very, not practical way. I think he thinks he can be a part of it but not be in it. I think he thinks he can control it but not get his hands dirty. We’re going to find out.”
(Major Spoilers for Luke Cage Season 2 Ahead)
The second season of Luke Cage ended with Mariah Stokes’ demise and Luke’s rise as the new “King” of Harlem. This was a unique season finale for the hit Marvel Netflix series as it appears that the unbreakable Hero for Hire may be playing a more antagonistic role in the near future.
Luke will have Harlem’s best interest at heart but like Mike Colter said, “we know absolute power can corrupt absolutely”. Season two villain Bushmaster managed to escape Harlem and has seemingly given up his quest for revenge against the Stokes family. We could potentially see another battle between Harlem’s new king and a more heroic Bushmaster somewhere down the road in season three.
This wasn’t the only news to come out of Baltimore Comic-Con. Via Comicbook.com, Mike Colter also teased The Defenders season two when responding to a fan’s question:
“That crowd wasn’t loud enough for Defenders 2, sorry,” Colter said, but when the audience popped louder, he relented. “Alright, alright, maybe we can do something.”
A second season for The Defenders seems unlikely at this point but if this hint is any indication, fans of the Marvel team-up series shouldn’t give up hope just yet.
