Hi-Rez Studios has announced its plans to bring cross-platform play into the mix. According to Gamasutra, Hi-Rez studios plans to have cross-platform play and progression for Smite, Realm Royale and Paladins. The best thing about these three games is that they’re all free to play!
Smite will be getting the cross-platform play feature soon and Paladins will be getting the feature in its upcoming season. As for Realm Royale, Hi-Rez says it’s willing to offer crossplay for both PC and Xbox One during the console closed beta period.
Cross-play is getting pretty popular. Especially with the recent announcement of games like Fortnite having the Cross-Platform play. Rocket League is another popular game with Cross-platform play as well. Hi-Rez is just the latest to offer cross-platform features for its players. And despite a recent change of heart from PlayStation leadership, the PlayStation 4 will be absent from the list of consoles that support crossplay.
Hi-Rez wants to leave a note that cross-platform play will be supported across a various amount of consoles. Those consoles include PC, Mac, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. They say they’re ready to support any upcoming opportunity to allow players on different consoles to have a good time playing together. This is according to the Hi-Rez website that has their mission right in the very intro.
Now let’s move on to what I said prior about PlayStation not participating in the cross-platform play for Hi-Rez games. Although they are not specifically named, this increases the skepticism players have of Sony for their choices on the matter. Many other developers are wondering exactly why Sony has an ongoing reluctance to open up the PlayStation to cross-platform play.
Even though they did it with Fortnite, it’s still going to require more convincing for Sony to agree to cross-platform play.
