A God of War documentary is coming soon from the team behind the game’s creators, Santa Monica Studio. The announcement trailer officially released yesterday, April 20th, one year after God of War launched on the PlayStation 4.

Titled Raising Kratos, the documentary, appearing only on PlayStation’s YouTube channel, will show off the efforts it took to revitalize and bring back Kratos to the PS4.

It will follow game director Cory Barlog and other game developers on their five-year journey as they share their dedication and hard work on the franchise in 2018.

The documentary will also feature more than just the creators behind the scenes work on the game. It will include how Kratos’ voice actor Christopher Judge and Sunny Suljic, who plays the god of war’s son, got into character and helped create two iconic heroes.

“Facing an unknown future, Santa Monica Studio took a massive risk, fundamentally changing their beloved franchise and re-establishing their rightful place in video game history. More than just a ‘making of,’ this cinematic journey of second chances rooted in family, sacrifice, struggle and doubt follows game director Cory Barlog and those who chase perfection in art and storytelling. Witness the incredible defeats, the unpredictable outcomes and the down-to-the-wire tension on full display in this true-life redemption story.”

Sony Interactive Entertainment is working with Santa Monica Studio to create Raising Kratos.

Fans were quick to assume the end of the trailer revealed a look at a possible new God of War game, but Barlog assured them the last few seconds were unused video they finally got to use for the documentary.

God of War took home the 2018 Game of the Year award at The Game Awards.

As of now, there is no release date for Raising Kratos, but it will be exclusively available on PlayStation’s YouTube.
