Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt’s new campaign ad has recently been in the spotlight, and for the wrong reasons. Many California residents have slammed the ad, accusing the reality TV personality-turned-politician of being “manipulative.”
In the video, Pratt appears in front of the homes of other Los Angeles politicians, such as current mayor Karen Bass. He points to their expensive properties and accuses them of “not having to live in the mess they created.” Later, he appears in front of a trailer, saying that this is where he lives after his house burned down: “I know what the consequences of failed leadership are, that’s why I’m running for mayor.”
Known for his work as a reality TV personality, Pratt previously appeared in programs such as The Hills. He announced his campaign for mayor in January 2026. Pratt is a Republican. However, municipal races in California are nonpartisan. His house in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood burned down during a wildfire in early 2025.
Los Angeles Residents Criticize Spencer Pratt’s New Ad
The new ad rubbed many Los Angeles residents the wrong way, and they took to social media to complain. One user said, “Misleading at best and manipulative at worst. He lost his home, yes. But going off on Bass and Raman for living in multi-million-dollar homes isn’t a valid criticism when you used to have a $3.8 million home in the Palisades.”
Multiple Los Angeles residents expressed outrage at the ad: “Wait, so he put a really expensive trailer on the lot where his Palisades house stood because people were questioning why he was in Santa Barbara? This man will do anything but rent in any other part of town.” Others mocked Pratt, jokingly imitating him: “My opponents are rich and live in mansions. Vote for me, a rich guy who is temporarily without a mansion.”
A few people had strong words for the mayoral candidate: “Absolute clown. Aside from his policies, he presents himself as a self-centered, angry, narcissistic piece of [expletive] human.” Some even expressed disbelief that he would receive any votes: “It’s embarrassing that anyone would consider him. He was born rich and has never worked a day in his life. He made his money from reality TV and shilling crystals.”
As the mayoral campaign is just starting to gain momentum in Los Angeles, this is likely not the last voters will see of Spencer Pratt. It remains to be seen, however, whether his campaign will gain traction.
