Actress Whoopi Goldberg is yet again apologizing for her comments about the influence of race on the Holocaust on Tuesday’s episode ofย The View.ย In February of this year, the ladies on The Viewย discussed the banning of numerous books from schools, one of which was the graphic novelย Mausย by Art Spiegelman. During the discussion, Goldberg suggested that the Holocaust wasn’t about race but “white-on-white violence.” These comments resulted in Goldberg being suspended from The Viewย for two weeks.ย WSVNย explains that Goldberg appeared to double down on these comments, saying, “My best friend said, โNot for nothing is there no box on the census for the Jewish race. So that leads me to believe that weโre probably not a race.โ” Goldberg went on to say, โThe Holocaust โwasnโt originallyโ about โracialโ or โphysical attributes.’ It doesnโt change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldnโt find them.โ Goldberg’s comments have led to yet another wave of backlash forcing the actress to apologize for her remarks.

In a statement toย The Hollywood Reporter, Goldberg said, โIโm still learning a lot, and believe me, I heard everything everyone said to me. I believe that the Holocaust was about race, and I am still as sorry now as I was then that I upset, hurt, and angered people. My sincere apologies again, especially to everyone who thought this was a fresh rehash of the subject. I promise it was not. In this time of rising antisemitism, I want to be very clear when I say that I always stood with the Jewish people and always will. My support for them has not wavered and never will.โ
