A New York influencer and corporate life vlogger recently went viral after sharing a humiliating experience she said she had to endure while attending a brand event. Her story, which included a storytime video and footage of the moment the incident happened, left many netizens outraged on her behalf, with some even calling for the brand to be boycotted.
According to the influencer, who goes by @_misomelon on TikTok, she and several other guests invited to the brand dinner were informed earlier that day that they would receive a generous gift during the event. When the guests arrived, she said they were asked to start recording themselves because the brand wanted to capture their reactions to the surprise. They were also told to keep their eyes closed.
The woman said she followed the instructions and waited until staff told everyone to open their eyes. When they finally did, she said she noticed that the brand had placed a Louis Vuitton package in front of every other guest seated at the dinner table except her.
She Called It a Humiliation Ritual
“I was the only one that didn’t receive anything,” the influencer said. “And it took so much in me to like take the moment with grace and take it for what it was.”
She admitted that she felt embarrassed in the moment and began questioning why she had even been invited to the dinner. “I [felt] that initial stab of humiliation and imposter syndrome and start[ed] wondering like why was I even invited, why am I in this room, is it because I’m not good enough, they don’t deem me worthy enough for a gift.”
The woman added that she still tried to be happy for the other guests, whom she said deserved the gifts they received. However, she said it was difficult to sit through the moment while cameras continued recording everyone’s reactions.
Netizens React to New York Influencer’s Story
The influencer’s videos have since racked up millions of views on TikTok. In the comments section, many people said they were upset by how the situation played out. “That is so heartbreaking! I’m sorry this happened,” one person wrote. Someone else said, “Girl i’ll give you a louis vuitton gift.. you are absolutely deserving, especially with how you handled this with such grace ♥️”
Another viewer commented, “They should have known better. I am so sorry you had to go through that.” A fourth added, “I followed you because you are Worthy!”
Several netizens also wondered whether the influencer had been left out intentionally. “Leaving out ONE person out of TWENTY has to be so deliberate,” one commenter claimed. Another chimed in, “It’s a special type of cruelty- they didn’t have to invite her.” A third remarked, “That is so NOT ok! What the heck? Adult bullying.”
As of now, the influencer has not named the brand behind the event. In another clip that was posted to show the moment she described, it appears that while the other guests were given Louis Vuitton gifts, the influencer only received a card with her name on it.
