Roaming the Open World of AFK Journey
As an RPG, AFK Journey features combat alongside a rather impressive storyline. It’s stunning in looks alone, and it includes enough NPCs to make the world feel livelier. In the beginning stages of AFK Journey, you want to let it guide you through the main storyline as much as possible. This way, you can open the map more to reach different areas. From there, you can gain some breathing room to roam and enjoy the world.
Don’t forget to tackle the sidequests too for extra rewards. You can always select your Temporal Journal on the right side to see what quests you lined up and which you want to track. There’s little risk of getting lost as you go either because you can auto-follow the tracked quest. But your character won’t gather loot while on auto-follow. So, be sure you stop now and then to loot.
As long as you’ve gone by some Waystones, you can also unlock fast-travel portions. It’s one of the many reasons why you should let AFK Journey guide you through the main quests to explore the map.
Completing Quests in AFK Journey

So, keep an eye out while you’re going as you don’t want to stumble into a Level 23 enemy while you sit at Level 10. That’s why you should stay consistent with unlocking and leveling heroes.
Combat Tips and Tricks
There’s nothing too complicated about combat in AFK Journey, but you want to keep an eye on your team. Any time they hit an enemy or get hit, they gain Energy. A full Energy gauge is a must-have as it lets them do their Ultimates. This varies depending on the type of hero you have in combat. Some focus on massively healing or shielding your allies, while others pour all their skill into damaging the enemy.
This is why AFK Journey also guides you toward hero recruitment as you want the best team to keep up with any foe. Beyond that, you want to choose a versatile arrangement of heroes. Some close-combat warriors mixed with range fighters and healers make for a well-rounded lineup. I’ve learned early on that a healer is a must-have. As long as they’re leveled up, they can clutch the toughest battles by keeping your heroes on their feet.
Don’t forget to use the environment to your benefit when possible. Some battles will see things like walls and explosive barrels near the enemy. Archers can fire over walls, and you can always explode the barrels to deal great damage.
Finally, don’t forget about positioning. Enemies can target certain allies depending on where they’re at. Consider keeping your tank heroes near the front when this happens as they can soak up more damage.
AFK Journey Heroes – Recruitment and Leveling
On the topic of heroes, there are dozens you can obtain in AFK Journey to build your team. They rely on the Gacha system. To use it, head to the Noble Tavern in the Mystical House. You can use Diamonds, Tickets, and Invite Letters to recruit heroes. Consider adding specific characters you want to your Wish List. It’s not a guarantee, but it can help. Continuous recruitment can help you earn the higher-tiered heroes though, so don’t lose hope during the process.
Level Up Your Heroes
As AFK Journey guides you through various aspects, always level up your heroes when you can. A great thing about obtaining heroes via the Gacha mechanism is that you can also nab some ascension materials. Ascending heroes is just as key to improving their skills as leveling them up. This includes adding higher-ranking equipment.
It doesn’t hurt to learn all of your hero skills. However, it’s not exactly needed, which is one of the many reasons why AFK Journey is so beginner-friendly. You can auto-battle so they use their skills naturally. Of course, you can always jump in when for more control whenever you feel comfortable with their skills.
AFK Journey and F2P Players
As a F2P player myself, I can’t say enough how exciting it is to know that AFK Journey doesn’t hinder those who don’t come out of pocket for extra rewards. You can gain everything you need to obtain high-tier heroes. Sure it may take some more time and some luck, but it’s possible. Complete the missions, quests, and improve your AFK Progress. These features provide you with rewards like currency needed for the Gacha system.
Once you clear Stage 10, you can even use Auto Battle Mode which will see you collecting rewards until you’re knocked out without you doing anything. It’s the perfect way to put the “AFK” in AFK Journey to full use. Don’t forget to make some friends, join a Guild, and loot treasure for access to more rewards.
