Alabama Influencer Slams Cost of Making Spaghetti, Blames Trump Administration: ‘Corporations Are Getting the Tariff Refunds’

It shouldn’t be that expensive

On TikTok, Alabama influencer ChristinaTalksTea, aka Christina, shared a video of herself ranting about the price of groceries in the U.S. In her video, she claims her recent Walmart trip cost nearly $60, and all she wanted to do was make a delicious pot of spaghetti. And she puts the blame squarely on the Trump Administration.

It all started when Christina needed to make a quick grocery trip to Walmart, where the cheapest groceries are in her town. Or as she calls it: “Magamart.” Her partner needed deodorant and nicotine gum, but she picked up some ingredients for spaghetti, too.

Usually, she makes spaghetti “from scratch.” Unfortunately, with the price of things, and bring “broke,” she had to do it the “cheap” way with premade sauce. It amounted to a small bag of cheese, a pound of ground beef, pasta, a can of sauce, a single (small) onion, a single bell pepper, and boxed garlic bread.

“My total was $98,” Christina says. Taking away the nicotine gum and deodorant she bought, the food cost her $52. “I just spent almost $60 to make one pot of spaghetti. So please tell me about winning today, Red Hat.”

Christina then compares the stark difference from just a year ago. For “under $10,” she says, she could easily make the same pot of spaghetti the right way. And she says that also includes the beef. The onion and bell pepper she bought were just $3 each! How is anyone supposed to live on that?

She puts the Trump Administration on blast, arguing her groceries aren’t more expensive because of immigrants, Iran, or the LGBTQIA community. “The reason I can’t [expletive] afford to eat is because billionaires are sitting up there telling you to fear immigrants and transgenders while they [expletive] our country of everything that made it great,” Christina says and challenges any “Red Hat” to explain how they’re “winning” with the price of gas and food.

What People Online Had to Say about Christina’s Grocery Trip

Among thousands of comments, people were sharing their frustrating and equally pathetic grocery trips. Others were feeling the higher cost of living and had to express their anger in solidarity with Christina. “The rage in your voice expresses my inner rage. Thank you,” wrote one TikTok viewer.

Many shared what they were paying for various produce, like ground beef tomatoes. “An heirloom tomato was $5 at our grocery store. Insanity,” one commenter wrote. Another said they just spent $18 for “2 lb of ground beef” and blamed the Trump Administration.

One commenter was none too happy about tariffs. “Yet the corporations are getting the refund for tariffs,” they wrote, speaking to the recent decision of the Trump Administration to refund businesses of the tariffs they paid. However, this doesn’t apply to customers. In the comment thread, people were unconvinced consumers would get any kind of refund.

An elderly viewer shared that they hadn’t eaten “meats” of any kind for nearly four months. “I can’t afford it! It’s PBJ, soup, rice, beans.” A second elderly woman commented, stating that her and her partner “split a can of cream of mushroom soup,” along with a PB&J sandwich for dinner. People flocked to the comment section offering advice, such as seeking out a nearby food bank.
