An Alabama neighborhood hosted trick-or-treating for an autistic boy’s birthday, and the internet can’t handle how sweet it is. Leah Farrow is a tattooer in Huntsville, but broke from her usual content showcasing client tattoos to share a video of the sweet gesture. The video has reached 2 million views, with over 455,000 likes and over 7,000 comments.

Farrow calls this “an amazing act of kindness,” which started when she asked in a community Facebook group “if anyone would be willing” to let her son trick-or-treat. Eighty-three of her Alabama neighbors “enthusastically volunteered.” In the TikTok video, you can see her son blowing out his candles before a montage of him dressed as a banana going from house to house. You can see many smiling faces as he’s given an assortment of goodies.

Not my usual content but I wanted to share this amazing act of kindness by my neighbors who came together to make my son’s birthday so special. This is why community matters. #autism #momtok #fyp #autistic #parents

The Alabama mother shares that some people even had “banners and lights and straight up full gift bags.” You can even see several Happy Birthday signs outside and on porch railings. Farrow noted in the comments that while a few people had other plans, they left treats on their porches for him to pick up. The end of the video shows him standing with a table full of treats, snacks, and presents. She states that at the end of the day, “we ended up with three full big tote bags. He has candy to last him til he’s an adult.” This has taught Farrow an important lesson: “This is why community matters.”

Alabama Neighbors Have People In Tears

The video has been praised for showing inclusion, kindness, and being the best example of what a good neighbor is. One person left a comment that made the Alabama mother tear up: “Your neighborhood entered HIS world instead of making him fit into theirs. My heart is full watching this.” And they aren’t the only ones the video has brought to tears. Another commenter states, “Bad news for you, I planned on crying today anyway.” A third says, “What a supportive community. This makes my heart full.”

One of the Alabama neighbors commented, expressing their love for them, and saying, “Thanks for bringing Halloween joy to our summer.” Meanwhile, others are touched to see how many people are willing to make his day. One states, “This is one of the most profound examples of selfless community support I’ve ever seen.” Another says, “This is the type of community I want my future children to grow up in.”

The Alabama neighborhood definitely set an example of kindness and community that won’t be forgotten. And certainly, the birthday boy will always remember the time he got to trick-or-treat in the summer.
